A group of California conservative activists launched an effort on Monday Feb. 26 to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom, the fifth attempt to remove him from office.
On their website, organizers with Rescue California wrote that Newsom has abandoned the state to “advance his Presidential ambitions,” leaving behind a $68 billion budget deficit and a “public safety, immigration and education crisis.”
Rescue California also criticized that Newsom approved legislation providing some 700,00 immigrants free health care at “a cost to taxpayers of $3 billion annually.” The group additionally challenged Newsom’s decision to keep school closed during the first years of the coronavirus pandemic, and spent billions on government homeless programs that they say have failed repeatedly. The same group led a 2021 recall effort that made it to the ballot, however, Newsom overcame that recall effort by a 23-point margin over conservative radio host Larry Elder.
“We did it before. We will do it again,” Rescue California wrote in a Facebook post on Monday, Feb. 26.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass slammed the effort, calling it a waste of time.
“Republican recalls do nothing more than waste taxpayer dollars and valuable time when we need to be prioritizing these important issues,” Bass said, noting that the recall effort is led by the same group that tried to prevent Californians from getting vaccinated from COVID-19.
“…They were wrong then for attempting to recall the governor and are wrong now,” Bass said. “We beat them last time, and we’ll be them again.”
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Newsom called out the recall effort.
“Trump Republicans are launching another wasteful recall campaign to distract us from the existential fight for democracy and reproductive freedom,” Newsom wrote on social media. “We will defeat them.”
The group will need about 1.38 million verified signatures by May for their recall effort to qualify for the November ballot.

The threshold for recall initiation is obviously too low. In industry this would be called ‘barriers to entry’ that prevent nuisance or fraud from attaining credible or commercial viability. Think fake Chinese knockoffs of expensive handbags and the way that plaintiffs may have to pay for defense attorneys if they bring civil suit and lose.
Each time a recall election is held, it injures California to the tune of about $300M. If a mere 3.5% of the population can initiate a $300M expense, it is a system ripe for exploitation. Their signatures each cost the state $217, or, in the obverse, cost every citizen $7.50…to waste time.
These are a expensive nuisances and need some downside to the initiators, especially if they are groups like “Exploit California” (AKA “Rescue California”) that have zero public interest in mind, except for a mustering of an extreme miniroty of 3 in 100 citizens

Let’s see….the last recall effort cost the taxpayers in Ca $276 Million Dollars…..this next one?
$300 Million?
You just can’t fix Stupid.
Tim Scott says
We really need to get the recall statutes revised. 40% of the electorate was not, is not, and never will be enough to pass a recall no matter how much outrage the Larry Elders of the world can whip up in them. But our lax requirements to instigate a recall means that these clowns can pour half a billion dollars at a time of other people’s money down the drain over and over just to get their hate on. When this recall fails Larry Elder et al should have to reimburse the state out of their own pockets.
Patrick McGroyan says
While I think Newsom is an empty suit who arrived at his position through money, connections, and good looks, the recall process is not the answer, or at least in its current form. It is a waste of money. Unless there is some kind of criminal act, the removal of a sitting politician may be performed through elections. At the last election, more California voters chose Newsom. I question their choice, but it is theirs. If the majority of voters are content with the crime, homelessness, mental health crisis, drug crisis, border crisis, and non-business friendly environment of California, so be it. This is what we get. If someone does not like it, they can leave. Many have.
Rick says
But according to timmy there is no crime here.
Tim Scott says
“No crime”? Nope, never said that. A negligible level that is comparable to everywhere else? Yeah, I’ve said that. Of course, you lying is nothing new.
Rick says
So the crime in Lancaster where u live is the same as Stevenson Ranch? So you’re either wrong or lying.
Tim Scott says
Sorry Rick, I just don’t get excited about the difference between 0.00022 and 0.00018 If you wanna circle jerk over minutia get someone else.
Rick says
No fictional numbers here, just the facts. Lamo
Tim Scott says
Indeed. No fictional numbers. Just facts.
Rick says
Most ignorant comment Stevenson Ranch doesn’t even have illegal fireworks let alone the constant crime of Lancaster. SAF
Tim Scott says
Okay, so with actual numbers that he cannot understand on the table Rick decides to change the subject.
Rick says
I understand the numbers YOU put up just fine. There utter nonsense. What a SF
Tim Scott says
LOL…yep, keep proving the point my obsessed little fan.
Silvia says
Wow!!! You’re a wacko.
Mike says
Your hypocrisy knows no bounds. You want recall statues revised when one of your dictators are the target, but you have no problem supporting your party’s weaponization of the justice department to go after its political opponents. Your logic sounds quite similar to the banana republics of some 3rd world countries who have engaged in similar conduct throughout history.
Tim Scott says
I don’t care who the target is, letting a tiny minority force a doomed recall election at public expense is just dumb.
