PEARBLOSSOM – A shooting involving one or more sheriff’s deputies on Friday in the Pearblossom area southeast of Palmdale left a man dead.
The shooting occurred about 6:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, in the 13000 block of Pearblossom Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were sent to the location on a report of an “assault with a deadly weapon, person with a knife, at one of the businesses,” sheriff’s Lt. Patricia Thomas told reporters at the scene. The deputies drove around looking for him, and when they found him at or near a gas station, the man advanced toward deputies while armed with a sharp object, prompting the shooting, according to the sheriff’s department.
“The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” Thomas said.
Information on the man’s identity was not immediately available. Investigators recovered the “sharp object” at the scene, sheriff’s officials said. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
